Water is the source of life! 70% of our weight is H2O. That is why it is so important to us and why do we need more water for faster weight loss? Many people do not have the habit of drinking enough liquids during the day. They don’t remember or are too busy. Other people avoid water and drink all sorts of other liquids that are tastier but less healthy.

Drinking adequate amounts of water is extremely important when you exercise or want to lose weight. It not only quenches our thirst but also affects weight loss in many ways.

In the following lines, I will introduce you to the benefits of drinking more liquids.

Drinking water suppresses appetite.

Drinking H2O before meals can trigger impulses to the brain that the stomach is full and suppress appetite. When we are hungry, our first thought is to find food. However, this is not always the case. The feeling of thirst is also an impulse to the brain, which is activated at the slightest dehydration. Sometimes it is confused with the impulse of hunger.

Water can speed up metabolism.

In one study, 50 overweight girls were made to drink 2 glasses of water before each meal. The study lasted 8 weeks, during which time all participants lost weight, improved body composition, and body fat index.

This is not accidental, because drinking more H2O increases the thermogenesis of our body. Especially when it is cold, our body expends energy (calories) to heat it up to body temperature.

In another study, 14 clinically healthy adults were made to drink 2 glasses of water with a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius. There was an average increase in the metabolism of 30% from drinking cold water alone.

It can increase calorie burning.

In a study done in 2014 of 12 people who drank 500 ml. cold water, there was an increase in energy consumption. Drinking cold H2O can also lead to an increase in our energy expenditure at rest. This is because our body uses energy to heat water to body temperature, which can burn 2% to 3% more calories than normal.

H2O is needed for fat metabolism.

Without the presence of H2O in our body, our body cannot process the normally accumulated fats and carbohydrates.

Lipolysis is the process of breaking down fats. Hydrolysis is the first step in the lipolysis process. It occurs when H2O molecules interact with triglycerides (fats) to break them down into glycerol and fatty acids. Without water this process is impossible.

Drinking more calorie free liquids can reduce the consumption of other high-calorie drinks.

Often during the day, we resort to soda, coca cola, cappuccino, or other carbonated drinks with high sugar content. Drinking more water can reduce our caloric intake from high-calorie beverages.

A study conducted in 2015 involved women who underwent a weight loss program for 24 weeks. They were divided into 2 groups. One group drank 250 ml. of H2O after lunch, and the other group took the same amount from another drinks. The group of women who drank water lost 13.6 percent more weight than the other group.

These are just some of the benefits that water has on our bodies. There are many tactics that can help you drink more of it, but in the end, it is best for you to choose a way that works for you. Over time, this will become a habit and you will not have to, even if you think you need to drink more water. By then, you will already be healthier!

How to drink more?

If you haven’t had enough H2O so far, don’t start pouring from day one! Start increasing your daily intake by 200-300 ml. until you reach the minimum for you, which is 20 ml. per kilogram of body weight. If you exercise regularly, this intake may increase. If it is summer and the temperature outside is 25-30 degrees or more, you sweat profusely, you need to increase your H2O intake again. A good indicator of whether you drink enough of it is your urine. If it is dark yellow, then you are not drinking enough. Your urine should be light yellow. Keep in mind that if you take any medications, supplements, juice, or juice, your urine may become discolored for a short time. But if it is constantly dark, it is likely that you do not drink enough water.

Here are some tips to help you increase your H2O consumption:

  • Carry a bottle of water with you at all times;
  • Drink a glass of H2O before each meal;
  • Set alarms on your smartphone to remind yourself to drink more often;
  • Drink water when you are thirsty;
  • Put lemon or other fruit in the water to make it tastier;
  • Drink water from a straw;
  • Drink water after each walk to the toilet;
  • Keep a diary of how much water you drink each day.

I hope I have been helpful with these tips and I hope they will help you to drink more water for faster weight loss!
